They anticipated that distinguishing between the living, and the dead would be a problem. They also had to avoid various actions that could make them appear ‘alive’. Who could have imagined that they also had to be careful of corpses fighting?
Fang Qi: “It should be like this. They hastily mentioned a bit, and the specific situation is still unclear.”
Zhao Kehan said, “Then they might really keep evolving.”
Pang Yang: “But evolving so quickly? They gain self-awareness and understand how to fight in just ten minutes?”
The alarm rang again.
Players mingled among the corpse group, returning to the bus once more.
Before Ning Su got on the bus, he looked around, not seeing Ling Xiao.
He should feel relieved. One foot stepped on the bus door, but he couldn’t resist looking around again. Still, he didn’t see anyone.
Ning Su boarded the bus with a heavy heart.
According to their agreement, Pang Yang changed to a different bunk, moving to the front row far away from that old “person.”
The old “person” seemed to have a bad memory. After getting on the bus, he lay down on the bed and forgot about what happened earlier.
Nothing happened on their bus again.
Ning Su lay on the bed with the two children, half-asleep.
At night, they got off the bus four times. Except for the first two times, they didn’t know how the players died the other two times.
It might be because the corpses became more proficient in dealing with anomalies, and the parking time became shorter. They gathered together for a few words, and the alarm rang.
Starting from the death of the second player, the remaining players should know to avoid actions of the living and stay alert. Still, players continued to die.
But they didn’t know how they died, making the players even more anxious.
They didn’t know what happened in the dark night.
When Ning Su woke up in a daze, he felt the bus stop for a moment. Before Ning Su could fully wake up, the bus shook and moved forward again, so he closed his eyes and went back to sleep.
Before dawn, the bus stopped again.
When they got off, the dead players had been hung on trees in the distance. They didn’t dare to go over and look again, so they hurriedly gathered to exchange information.
Fang Qi hurriedly said to Ning Su and Pang Yang, “I feel something’s wrong with your bus.”
Pang Yang, who had been tense without sleeping, jumped, asking, “What’s wrong?”
Fang Qi said, “There are two buses running side by side on this road. Your bus and Zhao Kehan’s bus are at the forefront, with your bus’ number being 4-10326-01, and Zhao Kehan’s bus’s number being 4-10326-02.”
They knew that every time they got off the bus; they were afraid of boarding the wrong one, so they always glanced at the license plate number.
The license plate number was easy to remember, with the instance number in the front and the bus number in the back.
Fang Qi said, “The last row has two buses with numbers 09 and 10. I’m on 09, and there’s no bus behind.”
Ning Su understood.
Pang Yang still didn’t understand, but he became more and more anxious. He glanced at the thick, endless night and saw a dead face inside the bus staring at him through the window.
He was scared, his heart trembled, and he anxiously asked, “So what?”
Fang Qi said, “There are a total of ten buses and thirty players. Our 09 bus has three players, one player died on Zhao Kehan’s 02 bus, leaving two players there. Besides, two other buses have confirmed three players each. So, it can be basically determined that there are three players on one bus.”
He pursed his lips, and his pitch-black eyes looked at the two. “On your bus, how about it? Just the two of you?”
“...”
This was telling a horror story.
Pang Yang suddenly broke into a cold sweat.
Just then, a piercing bell suddenly rang.
Pang Yang almost jumped up.
Fang Qi’s bus was at the back and immediately left.
Zhao Kehan could be a minute late. He hurriedly comforted these two young people who didn’t seem very reliable. “Don’t be nervous. Not all players on the buses recognize each other. The other player on your bus should be a cautious person. At the beginning of the instance, when the situation is unclear, they won’t act easily.”
He was quite good at comforting people.
He hit the nail on the head.
But in such an environment, it’s really hard not to panic when someone said that their bus was not normal.
The night had almost passed, five players had died, and that player still hadn’t appeared. Moreover, they hadn’t found him on the bus.
Before getting on the bus, Ning Su told him, “Don’t be nervous. Whether they appear or not doesn’t matter. You need to stay calm and not be discovered by the corpses.”
Pang Yang trembled and weakly responded with a “yes.”
They returned to their respective bunks.
Ning Su’s bunk had been at the back the whole night without any changes. There were several skulls placed there, arranged in an orderly manner.
Pang Yang’s bunk had been changed once, moving from the one near the old “person” at the back to a position far away from it.
As soon as Pang Yang returned, he immediately lay down on the bed, wrapped himself in the blanket, facing the outside of the bus.
This was the safest posture.
As long as he stayed lying down like this, everything should be fine. It should be quite safe.
He should get some sleep; he hadn’t slept the entire night, and his mind was starting to become chaotic. In an instance that required a high level of concentration, this was not acceptable.
However, he couldn’t stop thinking about what Fang Qi had said, about the player who hadn’t yet appeared on their bus.
He slowly turned around in the dimly lit and swaying bus, searching for another possible player.
He was on the lower bunk, unable to see the upper bunk or the one behind him, only the “person” on the adjacent lower bunk.
Some lay stiffly on their bunks, their eyeballs rolling.
Some had a row of iron nails stuck in the soles of their feet, dark and decayed.
There were also those who appeared normal, sitting on the bed, combing long and black hair.
When someone noticed him looking, they slowly turned their heads.
Pang Yang quickly closed his eyes.
He didn’t know if that “person” was still watching him. Someone who could comb their hair should be more formidable than an ordinary corpse, so he remained tense, holding his breath. After a long time, he turned to face the bus wall again.
Just as he was about to exhale, he suddenly felt movement from the upper bunk.
He immediately closed his eyes again, pulling the blanket gradually over his head.
In the cramped and narrow blanket, he still held his breath, afraid to exhale. The musty smell inside the blanket kept drilling into his nose.
When he was almost about to faint, he silently opened his mouth and, in the dim and confined space, cautiously exhaled.
It was at this moment that he felt the person on the upper bunk sitting on his bunk.
Pang Yang quickly stopped breathing, almost letting out a hiccup out of fear.
That “person” sat on his bunk for quite a while, placing their hand on his blanket.
Pang Yang was indeed lucky. After the system’s luck value became availanle, his luck value was 87, but he didn’t believe this luck value could let him escape three consecutive times. Just as the discovery by the corpses was imminent, the screams from outside interrupted it.
This time, he was sure to be discovered.
Sweat had soaked his forehead, and a layer of cold sweat had been scared out of him, dampening the curls in front of his forehead. A few strands of hair were sticking to it.
The air inside the blanket was stagnant and hot, causing his face to turn red, and his whole body felt scorching.
Even the dumbest corpse would be able to tell that this was an anomaly.
He wanted to wipe the sweat off his face or use the blanket to rub it away, destroying the “evidence of a living person.” However, he dared not move at all, fearing any unusual movement might give him away.
The “person” patted his blanket.
It was a heavy pat, and even through the blanket, he could feel the weight on his shoulders.
Pang Yang forcefully closed his eyes, biting his lip tightly.
Closing his eyes left two creases on his face; he almost bit into his lip hard enough to draw blood. He managed to control himself from trembling, maintaining a rigid posture.
The “person” seemed to be observing him, contemplating whether he was of the same kind.
