The two children walked hand in hand for half a day, their stomachs growling with hunger.
The bread in their backpack had been devoured an hour ago, and after finishing the bread, they drank half a bottle of water.
“Ningning, I’m hungry.”
Ningning didn’t ask for Wagner’s bread, but Wagner, who had only eaten a piece of bread, was still very hungry. The little child, with a larger appetite than Wagner, had a louder growling stomach than the other.
He patted his stomach, the determined expression on his chubby face deepening. “We need to find something to eat quickly!”
The two children, who were once cautious about leaves, now specifically lowered their heads to search through tree leaves.
They aimed to find the food hidden beneath the leaves, determined to eat whatever it was, be it a big snake or something else!
The two hungry children, heads down, searched together, and after over an hour, they successfully uncovered a snake.
Ningning picked up a stone and smashed the snake with a crisp sound.
Directing Wagner, he said, “Use a branch to lift it and wash it in the stream!”
Following the instructions, Wagner used a branch to lift the snake and carried it to the stream for washing.
After washing for a while at the stream, Ningning took off his shoes and even caught a few nearly transparent shrimp and fish in the water.
“Ningning, we don’t have fire. How do we roast these?”
“Ningning can make fire!”
The proud child stood tall. His father had taught him how to make a fire when they were roasting food outside.
With courage, the two children roasted the snake, shrimp, small fish, and even some unfamiliar bugs on the tree.
Most of the roasted items ended up in the little child’s stomachs.
Despite not being enough to fill their stomachs, the two children, having tasted success, became bolder.
They grabbed anything they saw and wanted to try everything.
Due to constant fire-making and roasting, the children’s faces and clothes were dirty. Without careful observation, they would be unrecognizable.
As evening approached, Wagner looked at the still-walking child and asked in confusion, “Ningning, aren’t we going to rest?”
The child walking in front, stringing together several large bugs and hard-to-find shrimp with long leaves, didn’t turn his head. “I want to find Lele.”
He himself hadn’t eaten enough, but he kept a string of things to roast for Lele.
While the little was searching for Lele, the one he had in mind, Lele, was sharing his bread with Savi.
“Brother Savi, have some.”
Lele’s nose and eyelids were red; it was evident that he had been crying. He leaned against Savi, offering him the unfinished bread.
Savi’s stomach growled, but he refused to take the bread.
“With just this, you eat it yourself.”
Savi said, glancing at Lele’s exposed wrist. “You’re too thin; being so skinny isn’t good for your health. Look at Ning; he’s quite chubby. It would be better if he could share some of his flesh with you.”
Lele: “...”
Lele knew that Dad Ningning didn’t like being called fat. He wanted to retort for Dad Ningning, but, looking at Savi, he rubbed his eyes and held back his words.
Savi sat on a rock, keeping a close eye on Lele’s reactions.
Seeing him hold back his words, Savi’s eyebrows furrowed even more.
When this little Lele came, he noticed that the clothes he wore and the things he used were all top-notch, indicating he’s from a well-off family.
Normally, a child born in such a family shouldn’t have a personality like a doormat, even crying without daring to say much.
“Hey.”
Unable to bear it any longer, Savi pinched his cheek. “Whose child are you? Are your family treating you poorly? Are they abusing you?”
Lele, being pinched on the cheek, went from teary eyes to crying instantly. Tears dropped on Savi’s hand, making him involuntarily retract it.
“I’m not bullying you; I’m just asking.”
Savi frowned, using the language of the B1 planet to communicate with the crying Lele: “Stop crying. If you keep crying, I won’t take you to find Ning.”
Under Savi’s threat, Lele struggled to hold back his tears. He raised his face, sniffing, and said to Savi, “Want Dad Ningning.”
He hadn’t seen Dad Ningning for almost a day, and he wanted Dad Ningning.
After spending a day with Savi, it turned out that what he wanted the most was that chubby kid. Savi couldn’t help but feel that something was not right.
“You’re not his biological child. Why are you so clingy to him?”
Savi said this in his own language, fearing that Lele, the crybaby, might hear. Otherwise, the tears would be even more unstoppable.
After staying silent for a while, Savi wiped Lele’s tears away. Lele clutched one of Savi’s fingers and suddenly answered the question Savi had asked earlier, “Mom is good to Lele, but Mom is very afraid, afraid that Lele will die.”
Savi: “?”
Savi was puzzled, “Die? What do you mean die?”
This time, Lele didn’t just hold Savi’s finger; he buried his face in Savi’s chest. His voice trembled, full of fear, “Lele is going to die. Lele is a bad child.”
Savi was even more confused.
He looked down at Lele’s head buried in his arms and couldn’t figure out how this fragile and timid child could be associated with being a bad child.
“You’re not a bad child.”
Savi corrected him, “You’re more like a scaredy-cat child.”
Lele shook his head. “Lele is a bad child.”
Perhaps because Savi never believed him, Lele lifted his head. Tears streaked down his face as he covered his eyes with one hand.
“Brother Savi, Lele will show you... Don’t be afraid of Lele.”
Lele, covering his right eye, if looked closely, a hint of green could be seen between his fingers. But before he could put his hand down, a sound came from under the nearby leaves.
Savi’s ears twitched, instantly catching the faint sound.
Ignoring Lele’s eyes, he pulled him and ran.
“Run faster!”
Savi, carrying the child, ran swiftly. After a few steps, he stopped and lifted Lele, who couldn’t run, onto his back.
The forest path was difficult, but Savi, on such a challenging road, ran fast and effortlessly.
The sound under the tree leaves behind them grew louder, as if something were rapidly crawling beneath the leaves.
Lele clung to Savi’s back, hugging Savi’s neck tightly.
His tears flowed onto Savi’s neck, and the entire child trembled uncontrollably.
The monsters were coming to get Lele again.
Savi was running madly while carrying Lele on his back, and a bit behind them, Ningning, the nurturing father, was much calmer.
Ningning was still collecting food for Lele along the way. As he collected, he noticed that there weren’t too many insects here.
“Wagner, the insects here are quite strange. My dad said that insects really like to live in places like this.”
However, the insects on the trees and on the ground were scarce, which was completely unusual.
Wagner didn’t know much about ordinary insects; he had only studied knowledge about the Zerg race.
In the places where the Zerg race lived, other insects wouldn’t dare to stay, as the Zerg race might wipe them out.
Also, the Zerg race’s eyes were all green. Those green eyes had a captivating effect on prey, and the Zerg’s hunting was cruel and disgusting.
“Ningning.”
Wagner, who had been told by Ningning since they arrived that this wasn’t the remains of ancient Earth, belatedly realized, “If this isn’t the remains of ancient Earth, then whose remains could it be?”
Ningning: “...”
The little child fell into contemplation.
Both little children started to contemplate the short buildings, numerous underground areas, and the evidently suitable yet surprisingly insect-scarce damp environment.
A few minutes later.
The two brave little children, scared by their own conclusion, had anxious faces.
“Ningning, do you think there might really be Zergs here?!”
Although the insect-killing little child wasn’t afraid of Zergs, if there were too many, even the little child would be in trouble.
“Wagner, let’s call the teacher!”
“Okay!”
When the children arrived here, they all wore a distress signal. By pressing the alarm, they could notify the teacher. However, the teacher had said that they could only press it in very dangerous situations.
Without hesitation, the little child pressed the alarm. After pressing it, he looked at Wagner and then around.
Now he faced two choices:
1. Continue looking for Lele.
2. Quickly hide with Wagner.
