Ruan Qing stiffened upon hearing the words, releasing the hand that had been gripping Yan San’s shirt, and immediately withdrew his gaze.
He seemed uneasy, yet also afraid.
Yan San, watching the young man who dared not look at him, smiled with pleasure, then leaped again, stepping on the wall and directly onto the third-floor corridor.
He shook off Yan Ci, who was catching up.
Ruan Qing’s face grew even paler, and as Yan San jumped again, he tightly grasped his clothes once more.
Because Yan San’s jumps were reckless and extreme, completely disregarding whether he could make it across.
It was as if he was playing with his own life.
Yet despite the extreme danger each time, Yan San never made a mistake.
The factory was very large, with about six floors in total, and the middle was hollow, filled with various mechanical equipment.
Yan San cleverly utilized the terrain and angles to always jump from one place to another at critical moments, and Yan Ci couldn’t catch up even after chasing for a long time.
Let alone the other zombies.
Yan Ci was thoroughly enraged, his veins bulging, and even the normally pale pupils took on a tinge of blood-red, appearing terrifying.
Yan San raised an eyebrow at Yan Ci, who had become faster, then looked towards the nearby exit.
The zombies have been distracted, but it’s easy to be caught if they walk from there, after all, on flat ground. His speed was not as fast as Yan Ci’s.
Yan San’s gaze fell on other exits without hesitation, swiftly changing direction and heading towards that exit.
In addition to the main entrance, there were several other exits in the factory.
But the exit Yan San was heading for was not a typical one; it was a window at the top of the factory used for ventilation.
Big enough for two people to pass through.
Ruan Qing, following Yan San’s gaze, was surprised, and his eyes widened.
Because that exit was on the sixth floor.
Presumably, jumping out would mean hitting the wall, with no foothold whatsoever.
In other words, going out from there was akin to jumping straight from the sixth floor.
As Yan San carried Ruan Qing towards the exit, Ruan Qing’s eyes, shimmering with water, showed a trace of panic and tension. He quickly reached out and wrapped his arms around Yan San’s neck.
Yan San lowered his gaze to glance at Ruan Qing and chuckled softly. “Afraid?”
“Are you afraid of me, or afraid that we’ll be caught up to?” Ruan Qing pursed his lips but didn’t speak.
Yet his whole being tensed up, looking extremely uneasy.
Yan San paid no attention to Ruan Qing’s silence. He tightened his grip on Ruan Qing’s hand and exerted some force, then, stepping on the wall, he leaped up from the corridor railing.
Clearly, he was preparing to use the machinery in the center of the factory to jump directly to the sixth floor.
However, it wasn’t as smooth this time.
Yan Ci, having chased for so long without catching anyone, was already in a state of fury. His speed and jumping ability were stronger than before.
He leaped up onto the railing, directly pouncing toward Yan San.
He was much faster than Yan San.
At this rate, both of them would reach the central machinery of the factory simultaneously.
Even if not simultaneously, the difference would be negligible; it would be almost impossible to shake off Yan Ci again.
Yan San’s eyes darkened slightly, but it was difficult to change direction in mid-air.
After landing steadily on the machinery, he immediately set Ruan Qing down and then fiercely kicked towards the oncoming Yan Ci.
The two collided directly.
And because Yan San suddenly let go of him, combined with his foot injury, Ruan Qing couldn’t steady himself and fell directly to the ground.
His already twisted foot twisted again.
“Uh...” Ruan Qing was in so much pain that his mind went blank, and his vision blurred instantly, tears streaming down his face.
Ruan Qing’s slender figure trembled slightly, taking over ten seconds to recover. After taking a deep breath, he slowly stood up, leaning against the machinery.
The two fought fiercely, showing no mercy whatsoever, not at all like true brothers.
At this moment, they appeared to be enemies as if they had killed their own parents.
This was definitely a good opportunity to leave, but Ruan Qing couldn’t leave.
Because the machinery he was in right now was like an island, with no way down.
The surroundings were smooth, with at least three meters of space below where one could stand, so Ruan Qing couldn’t possibly go down there.
Instead, the exit above seemed closer.
But Ruan Qing didn’t have the strength to leave from the sixth floor either.
The factory was already in chaos; some people, bolder than others, quietly ran towards the exit when they saw the zombies paying them no attention.
Ruan Qing looked around but couldn’t find Jiang Shuyu; she probably took advantage of the chaos and ran out too.
Only he was trapped high up on this machinery.
Standing on one foot was too tiring. Ruan Qing pursed his lips. Just as he was about to sit down and rest against the machinery, someone covered his mouth from behind.
“Mmm...!” Ruan Qing’s eyes widened. Just as he was about to struggle, he froze.
Then, allowing the person holding him to hug his waist, he turned towards the back of the machinery.
Because the person who had come was Xie Xuanlan.
Probably afraid that Ruan Qing would struggle, Xie Xuanlan lowered his voice and reassured him, “Shh, don’t speak.”
“It’s me.”
Because his mouth was covered, Ruan Qing couldn’t speak. He blinked lightly, indicating that he understood.
Seeing this, Xie Xuanlan let go of Ruan Qing, holding him in his arms as they leaped down the machinery together.
Without making any sound, they didn’t disturb the intense fight between the two.
However, other zombies did see them, immediately emitting growling noises and then eagerly pouncing towards them.
But since Yan Ci had ordered the zombies to chase Yan San, they had been like this all along, not attracting much attention.
So the two fighting didn’t notice at all that Ruan Qing had disappeared.
Because they had to be cautious of noise, Xie Xuanlan moved slowly while carrying Ruan Qing and didn’t dare to go towards the factory’s main entrance.
Because going that way meant encountering the most zombies, and it would easily expose them to the sight of those two.
Ruan Qing was somewhat more familiar with the factory than Xie Xuanlan, so he directly guided Xie Xuanlan.
He even analyzed and calculated the best route to take.
After all, it was only a matter of time before those two found out he was missing, and what they lacked most right now was time.
Just as the two were about to reach the exit, a soft and familiar voice sounded not far away.
“Captain Xie, where do you want to take my wife?”
Xie Xuanlan heard the voice, and without even turning his head, accelerated towards the exit.
There was no pause, no hesitation.
Since they were already discovered, they didn’t need to worry about making noise anymore.
However, just as they were about to rush out of the factory, a figure appeared at the entrance.
It was Yan Ci.
Yan Ci’s eyes were full of hostility.
“Xie.”
“Xuan.”
“Lan.”
Although Yan Ci spoke slowly, his words were very clear at this moment.
This startled Ruan Qing, and the hand around Xie Xuanlan’s neck tightened slightly, with a hint of nervousness and unease in his eyes.
He had never mentioned Xie Xuanlan in front of Yan Ci, and just now Yan San had referred to the other as Captain Xie, but Yan Ci had said Xie Xuanlan’s full name.
Obviously, Yan Ci remembered.
Yan Ci did indeed remember. He remembered that this person had taken Shi Qing away, and now he actually wanted to take him away a second time.
