The little girl usually had a proud and willful demeanor, but when she looked at Ling Xiao, she showed a respectful and admiring expression.
Ning Su added on her behalf, “She says you are like a father god to her.”
He added his own understanding, “Probably when she was dying, you appeared and gave her energy, turning her into a powerful ghost.”
Ling Xiao glanced at Ning Su for some reason.
“If that’s the case, then I have thousands of children, including you.”
Ning Su: “?”
Manman: “No, he’s Mom.”
Gui Sheng: “Hmm!”
Pang Yang felt confused all the way, as they constantly staged impromptu family ethical dramas he didn’t understand.
With their playful banter, much of the tense fear dissipated, and they finally reached the end.
Contrary to their expectations, on the other side of the bridge was a town dotted with lights.
Having crossed this long bridge, the corpses seemed different.
They had truly become ghosts.
Perhaps this would be their next hometown where they would live.
They bid farewell to them at the bridge.
The old man said to Ning Su, “Thank you for accompanying me on this journey.”
From corpses to ghosts, a road in the underworld.
In this special road, someone accompanied them, resembling a farewell from the world of the living.
Two children looked up at him.
The old man patted their heads. “I hope to meet such lovely children here too.”
The old man got up and stuffed a card into Ning Su’s pocket.
The high school student also bid farewell to Ning Su, “Thank you, senior, for showing me around the campus.”
He left behind the map Ning Su gave him and handed the admission letter to Ning Su. “If you have the chance, could you give it to my mom, senior?”
Ning Su didn’t answer; Pang Yang felt uncomfortable at first.
Those of them who died on the road couldn’t leave anymore.
And these players, they couldn’t leave either.
Unable to leave this infinite horror game.
Ning Su accepted the acceptance letter and said, “Okay.”
A smile appeared on the face of the student with the backpack, and there was a renewed sparkle in his eyes.
With the faded backpack slung over one shoulder, he walked towards the small town.
As he waved goodbye, the faint lights of the town glimmered behind him.
Watching the ghosts walk into this dimly lit town, as if walking into another home, Pang Yang sighed, “They will live in this town in the future, won’t they? If so, that would be wonderful.”
Ning Su understood Pang Yang’s words.
For those players who died on the road or in the dungeons, if they were to live here after death, even death wouldn’t seem so frightening.
This might be the only warmth in this terrifying world.
Ning Su: “Wake up, if that’s the case, we might have to walk this path repeatedly, working for the system for a lifetime. It’s too frightening.”
A nightmare for a salted fish like him.
Pang Yang: “...”
Who would want to chat with someone like this?
After the ghosts left one by one, there were only eight players left.
Ning Su opened the acceptance letter of the student with the backpack and saw his name, Gu Luping.
There was a card clipped inside the acceptance letter.
Ning Su picked up the card, and three words were written on it: “Good Person Card”.
He then took out the card from the old man’s pocket, which also had three words written on it: “Good Person Card”.
Ning Su: “...”
Ning Su didn’t expect that in his lifetime, he would receive a Good Person Card, let alone two at once.
And they were given by ghosts.
Ghosts giving out Good Person Cards to a zombie.
Ning Su made a sound of agreement and held it up for Ling Xiao to see. “Do you want it? Shall I give you one?”
Ling Xiao: “...”
For some reason, he instinctively didn’t want the good person card the other offered.
Ling Xiao: “I’m not human.”
Ning Su: “...”
The lady driver led them on, passing through the center street of the ghost town and arriving at a solemn and chilling arched building.
The entire building was cast from black stones of varying shades, towering into the black sky.
Every part became sharper as it went up, with grotesque rocks protruding, sinister and sharp in the thick black mist.
Presumably, this was their destination, their place of judgment.
Before them, there were ten bridges built over black water, leading to ten dark rectangular gateways, with ghostly flames flickering on the black walls beside the gateways.
The lady driver smirked with an exaggerated smile on her face. “One person per bridge. Walk well on your journey.”
“...”
It’s the first time they had heard such a creepy ‘farewell’.
The players hesitated for a few seconds, each choosing a bridge to walk across.
Ning Su, being the last, said to the lady driver, “Miss Driver, I’m going now.”
The lady driver’s spider-leg eyelashes twitched frantically, blinking.
Ning Su nodded to her. “Thanks for the company along the way.”
As Ning Su lifted his foot to leave, the lady driver grabbed his hand and placed it on her skull-like face.
Ning Su: “...”
Only then did he realize that the lady driver’s hand also had unidentified tentacles.
It couldn’t be said to be just one lady driver, but rather lady drivers, crazily absorbing the black energy within his body.
The little snakes, spiders, bats, and octopuses, satisfied, began to transform back one by one, dizzily and dumbly falling down.
Ning Su: “...”
When they were finally full, as Ning Su was about to leave, the lady driver handed her another invitation card.
Ning Su: “...”
Ning Su bid farewell to the reluctant lady driver, then became the last to step onto the Black Bridge, where he caught sight of Ling Xiao glancing back from the adjacent bridge.
There were no other players on the bridge, only him, dressed in a dark windbreaker, silently looking back at him amidst the swirling black mist.
Ning Su couldn’t see his expression clearly, so he just raised his arm and waved to him.
Ling Xiao nodded at him and walked into the black hole first.
Ning Su spoke to the two children, saying, “I wonder what will happen to him. If it’s indeed a judgment in hell, I recall there’s a level specifically for judging laziness. He’ll likely be sent there.”
Thinking of how Ling Xiao almost lay flat all the way, Ning Su couldn’t help but say with some envy, “He’s living the life I’ve always wanted.”
Gui Sheng said, “Indeed fortunate!”
“...”
Manman sighed.
Walking through that rectangular gate, only a few steps were in darkness, and then Ning Su saw the light and shadow on the stone wall.
He saw a bruised and swollen little boy struggling to get up from the ground.
Ning Su was stunned.
This was him when he was a child.
The long corridor of stone walls was quickly playing out his life.
He saw himself being left at the entrance of the welfare home, saw himself moving from one family to another.
He saw himself sleeping on the lingxiao flower.
He saw himself stuffing lingxiao flowers into his mouth while taking notes in class, saw himself riding a bicycle through the bright campus.
He saw himself fleeing in the apocalypse, saw himself turning into a zombie, wandering north and south.
Finally, he saw himself appearing on the spirit bus, every detail of this journey unfolding slowly.
The mortal world and the underworld seemed to be connected, as if forming his complete life of yin and yang.
From childhood to adulthood, being stretched to death, appearing on the bus, walking the underworld path to the netherworld, about to face judgment.
“Deceased Ning Su, aged 23, causing trouble and fighting on the bus, assaulting new ghosts, injuring old ghosts. Do you have anything to say?”
At the end of the corridor sat three people, dressed in black robes with tall white hats.
The one asking the questions was the judge sitting in the middle.
Thanks for the update
