However, Xie Xuanlan was still running in that direction, only stopping when reaching the position of the door.
Because there was nowhere else to go.
The three watched as the two trapped individuals came to a halt.
Ruan Qing held the laptop and looked at Xie Xuanlan. “Three minutes, at most, until three o’clock.”
It only takes less than three minutes to grant access, but behind it, there’s a doctor controlling the entire Eternal Life Laboratory.
He would absolutely not allow someone to breach the system.
So, the time spent negotiating with the other party was factored in.
“Okay.” Xie Xuanlan gently set Ruan Qing down and then walked expressionlessly towards the three.
There was no hesitation, just like when he risked everything to hold off Yan Ci and Yan San for Ruan Qing.
It was only because of his question, ‘Can you help me?’
He always found it difficult to refuse his requests, even if it meant his own demise.
Ruan Qing no longer paid attention to the four, instead prying open the access panel with a small knife, connecting the computer data cable, and quickly typing on the computer.
This time, regardless of what the doctor in the control room said, Yan Ci and the other two knew that the young man had been trying to hack into the system to open the door.
The three immediately took action without any hesitation.
With the young man out of the way, they were all ruthless, clearly aiming to kill Xie Xuanlan within three minutes.
Without Xie Xuanlan to assist him, even if the door was opened for him to escape, the young man wouldn’t be able to go anywhere.
Xie Xuanlan might stand a chance against one opponent, but definitely not against three; he might not even last three minutes.
Xie Xuanlan had long disregarded the risk of injury, trading minimal injuries for maximum advantage, doing his best to hold off the three and buy time for Ruan Qing.
However, three minutes passed, and the door on Ruan Qing’s side still hadn’t opened.
Yan Ci punched Xie Xuanlan in the abdomen, causing him to spit out blood.
By now, Xie Xuanlan was covered in injuries, but he didn’t stop, nor could he stop.
For Ruan Qing’s sake, and for his own.
Ruan Qing was as far from calm as he appeared. This Dr. Fu was too difficult to deal with. He didn’t expect him to be proficient not only in biology but also in computers.
Three minutes was simply not enough time for him to obtain the access.
But Ruan Qing did not give up. Ignoring the pain in his hands, he rapidly tapped on the computer keyboard, his hands moving so fast they left afterimages.
As time ticked by, sweat beaded on Ruan Qing’s forehead, and his fingers began to ache from the rapid typing.
Finally, a cold electronic sound rang out, announcing Ruan Qing’s victory.
“Ding! Welcome, Dr. Fu.”
As the electronic voice echoed, the door slowly opened.
Ruan Qing quickly unplugged the data cable, closed the computer, and walked toward the door.
Meanwhile, the door began to close slowly.
Upon hearing the electronic sound, Xie Xuanlan didn’t dodge Yan San’s attack directly. Instead, he used his force to dodge towards the door.
Then, he quickly rolled and managed to roll into the door just as it was closing.
The closed door separated the three on the other side.
Xie Xuanlan spat out blood again, weakly supporting himself against the wall, clutching his chest and kneeling halfway on the ground.
However, Ruan Qing didn’t have time to attend to Xie Xuanlan. As soon as he arrived inside, he opened the laptop and continued typing on the keyboard.
He couldn’t let the doctor regain control, or they would still have difficulty leaving this place.
However, the doctor proved to be a formidable opponent, employing techniques that were remarkably familiar, as if he shared a similar background or training as Ruan Qing. His skills were nearly on par with Ruan Qing’s.
His only advantage was agility.
If they continued to engage in a duel, he might narrowly prevail, but once he stepped away from the computer, the doctor could regain control once again.
This was definitely not good.
Ruan Qing’s eyes narrowed imperceptibly for a moment, then he quickly began typing on the keyboard again.
Since he couldn’t gain control, then no one should.
Three minutes later, red countdowns appeared simultaneously on Ruan Qing and the doctor’s computers.
10:00
At the same time, a cold and ruthless voice resounded through the entire Eternal Life Laboratory, accompanied by alarm sounds and flashing red lights.
[The self-destruct program has been initiated. The Eternal Life Laboratory will be destroyed in ten minutes.]
Ruan Qing: “!!!!”
Ruan Qing’s eyes widened in astonishment. The self-destruct of the control system unexpectedly triggered the destruction of the entire Eternal Life Laboratory.
Clearly, the Eternal Life Laboratory knew that using living humans as experimental subjects was a crime, and they had already prepared for self-destruction.
However, Ruan Qing never imagined that destroying the central control system would also destroy the laboratory.
If he had known it would be like this, he would never have attempted to destroy the control system.
Frantically, Ruan Qing tapped on the keyboard, attempting to modify the self-destruct program.
However, in order to prevent Dr. Xie from making changes, he directly hard-coded the program, making it impossible for even himself to change it.
Naturally, it would be best if this laboratory conducting experiments on human subjects were destroyed, but the problem was that both he and Xie Xuanlan were inside the laboratory.
Ten minutes was simply not enough time for them to escape.
They would also perish here.
After realizing he couldn’t alter the self-destruct program, Ruan Qing quickly pulled up the laboratory’s floor plan, hoping to find a way out.
In the end, he found one.
The Eternal Life Laboratory was located on the westernmost end of the entire island, with the sea behind it.
It was also the closest exit to Zone A.
As long as they jumped into the sea before the laboratory exploded, maybe they could survive.
Ruan Qing pursed his lips, closed the computer, and looked at Xie Xuanlan, softly asking, “Can you still run?”
Xie Xuanlan wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and said in a deep voice, “I can.”
After speaking, Xie Xuanlan stood up, lifted Ruan Qing, and quickly ran in the direction indicated by Ruan Qing.
It was as if he hadn’t been injured at all.
However, from his increasingly slower pace, it was clear that his injuries were severe.
Xie Xuanlan was not only scratched by zombies; several of his ribs were broken and had pierced into his organs.
Without treatment, even with self-healing abilities, he wouldn’t recover.
Because the ribs were lodged in his organs, self-healing was impossible.
Moreover, the serious injuries accelerated the infection rate of the zombie virus around his waist, which had already decayed more than half.
Xie Xuanlan was starting to lose sensation around his waist.
But he didn’t have time to stop; if he died, it would only be a loss of some strength, but if Ruan Qing died, everything would be reset to zero.
Time was running out. Xie Xuanlan’s vision was beginning to blur.
He could no longer see the path ahead clearly, but instead, he observed from Ruan Qing’s perspective through the system.
As the self-destruct countdown reached ten seconds, the lab’s electronic voice began the countdown.
[Ten.]
[Nine.]
Xie Xuanlan looked at the sea not far away, now almost within reach, just a sprint away to jump into it.
[Three.]
[Two.]
It seemed too late.
Xie Xuanlan exerted all his strength, hurling Ruan Qing fiercely into the sea.
[One.]
The countdown hit zero.
“Boom!”
The explosion was deafening, and chain reactions of explosions swept through various areas of the Eternal Life Laboratory simultaneously.
By now, Xie Xuanlan had reached the edge. As he prepared to leap forward, a massive explosion erupted behind him.
The shockwave of the explosion threw him into the sea.
All sound vanished instantly, and the world turned silent.
Xie Xuanlan watched the distant sea surface, coughing up blood.
His blood mixed with the seawater, quickly dissipating.
Xie Xuanlan wanted to find Ruan Qing, but his body was too weak; he might not survive swimming to shore in the sea.
Moreover, that kind of explosion might not have killed those few people, anyway.
However, the explosion left him without even the strength to raise his hand, forcing him to slowly descend on his own.
