Zhao Zhihu felt greatly relieved when he heard the base commander say this. He glanced at Ning Su and then at the base commander. “If we work together, we might not lose to him.”
At the very least, they could escape.
The base commander did not answer him, and a brief silence fell over the city wall.
In the distance, the fiery red glow of the sunset bathed the city wall, casting an orange light on the two people in white shirts.
The young man in the white T-shirt moved first. He never once looked at Zhao Zhihu, heading straight for the person in the white shirt.
His facial expression was slightly stiff, but his body was unusually agile.
In the blink of an eye, he appeared in front of the base commander and punched him in the face.
The base commander quickly deflected his wrist, causing the young man’s hand to fall onto the base commander’s shoulder. Using the momentum, the young man pressed down on his shoulder, lifted his lower body, and spun around to mount the base commander’s shoulders from behind.
His two long, straight legs dangled from either side of the base commander’s shoulders, and his pale, powerful hands clamped around the base commander’s neck.
This was an extremely dangerous and deadly move.
As Zhao Zhihu was about to charge forward with a string of ice spikes growing from his palm, the base commander counterattacked.
With his long arms, he grabbed the young man by the back of the neck and flung him in front of him, pinning his arms behind his back, and pressed him down against the city wall.
Zhao Zhihu’s heart leaped with joy. He hadn’t expected the previously weak base commander to subdue Ning Su so easily.
Ning Su angrily turned his head to look at the base commander.
Perhaps it was due to the warm filter of the orange sunset, but at that moment, Zhao Zhihu didn’t find zombie Ning Su scary at all.
In fact, he felt a bit moved.
He suddenly remembered that when people at the base first saw Ning Su, the most talked about thing was his face.
At this moment, he looked like a little wolf cub being pinned down, angry and furious, but also with a trace of curious fondness for his enemy. These thoughts and expressions spread across his face, and his bright, watery eyes were particularly captivating.
“Ning Su, you really are weak!” the Vampire shouted from below. “To be subdued by a human in one move, you’re still weak, even as a zombie king!”
“Wait for me to come up and rescue you!”
Zhao Zhihu yelled, “Arrogant! You don’t know how powerful our base commander is!”
As the Vampire climbed up the city wall, Zhao Zhihu hurled an ice spike at him. The Vampire, known for his speed, easily dodged it and leaped to engage Zhao Zhihu in a fight.
Next to them, in front of the base commander and behind Ning Su, the hands that had been bound behind his back were already freed. Unseen by others, they slowly clasped together.
Below, zombies and humans were entangled in a fierce battle, with the sounds of banging on doors, roars, and screams piercing the air.
Nearby, the Vampire and Zhao Zhihu were cursing and attacking ferociously, with ice spikes and venom flying everywhere.
Ning Su quietly and intently turned his head to look at the face just inches away. After watching for a dozen seconds, he turned back to gaze at the distant sunset.
Behind the terrifying zombies, the sunset was as red as blood, his favorite color since childhood because it was the color of the lingxiao flowers.
The lingxiao that fed and accompanied him appeared before him in human form.
Holding his hand.
Their fingers slowly intertwined.
Ning Su turned back again, his eyes shining brightly as he looked at him and softly said, “You are really beautiful.”
Ling Xiao’s Adam’s apple moved slightly. He was currently wearing the face of the person who had expelled Ning Su from the human base.
He couldn’t describe his feelings; he tightened his grip on Ning Su’s hand.
Ning Su used his other hand to push the base commander’s shoulder, grabbed his collar, and slammed him against the opposite wall.
Zhao Zhihu, who was on the verge of collapsing, panicked, “Base Commander, how did you get overpowered by him again?”
The Vampire laughed loudly, “Ning Su, you’re something! Hurry and kill him!”
He licked his lips. “How do you zombies kill? Do you eat people or suck blood?”
Ning Su looked at the base commander’s neck, who lowered his eyes to meet Ning Su’s gaze, his eyes deep and murky.
The word “suck blood” had stirred something in him, a desire that couldn’t be restrained.
Ning Su grabbed his collar and lifted his head close to his neck.
“Boom——”
“The base gate has been breached!”
“Charge!”
“Kill them all while we have the chance!”
The Vampire laughed loudly and, taking advantage of Zhao Zhihu’s stunned state, flew in front of him, bit his neck fiercely, and then jumped into the base.
Ning Su No. 2 saw the Gu Witch leading the young Shi Tianzhu inside. The Gu Witch looked in their direction for a few seconds, then quickly grabbed young Shi Tianzhu’s arm and ran into the base.
Ning Su let go of the base leader’s collar and chased after them.
The base leader stood on the city wall, watching Ning Su’s figure grow smaller in the distance.
The dying Zhao Zhihu lay on the ground. “Base leader, aren’t you going to stop them?”
The base leader looked at the receding figure and said hoarsely, “After the fight, my body is even weaker; I can’t stop them.”
The weak Zhao Zhihu struggled to extend his hand towards him. “Then, can you save me?”
The base leader crouched beside Zhao Zhihu, looking down at him with dark, unfathomable eyes. “Were you the one who led the team to drive him away?”
Zhao Zhihu opened his mouth to answer, but it seemed the other didn’t need his response.
Zombies were swarming into the base, crowding the base gate, while humans had already taken refuge inside the base.
At this moment, a barely alive person fell from the city wall.
This was the only visible human among the crowded zombies, the only piece of food.
Zhao Zhihu hated himself for not dying from the fall.
He opened his eyes wide, watching helplessly as the zombies all turned towards him and swarmed over.
In that minute, the pain was doubly heart-wrenching.
Ning Su and Xia Ke looked at Shi Tianzhu, wondering how to deal with these three people.
At this moment, they heard the sound of the base gate being broken open.
Xia Ke opened her mouth but couldn’t speak; what came out of her mouth wasn’t words, but a swarm of Gu insects.
Ning Su and Shi Tianzhu didn’t hesitate at all and were ready to take action immediately.
“Stop! Stop! Don’t move!”
Not far away, Ning Su No. 2 chased after the Gu Witch, who was dragging a girl about ten years old.
Ning Su No. 2 shouted to them, “Don’t move! She’s been infected with Gu!”
Ning Su immediately withdrew his hand.
Shi Tianzhu looked at the little girl, who was also looking at her.
The twenty-six-year-old Shi Tianzhu, tall and slender, stood calmly and gracefully among the blood and corpses, exuding her own unique presence.
The ten-year-old girl had pale lips, and on her fair face, a few black parasitic worms squirmed, her eyes betraying panic.
She pressed her pale lips together and nodded towards the twenty-six-year-old Shi Tianzhu.
Ning Su was shocked, “President!”
The Gu Witch also shouted, “Shi Tianzhu, stop!”
Shi Tianzhu’s long sword had already pierced the heart of the Black-clothed Azan. She then reversed the sword and threw it at the human pupa master, while the purple gauze in her other hand wrapped around Jia Chengsheng’s neck. Her movements were crisp and decisive, without any hesitation.
Both Ning Su’s eyes anxiously turned to the younger Shi Tianzhu.
As Shi Tianzhu did not pause for a second and threw the sword at the human pupa master, a string of black parasitic worms gushed from the younger Shi Tianzhu’s nose, and she spat out a mouthful of blood.
She tightly gripped the whip coiled around her waist, managing to leave a final message.
“He said he would bring me to meet someone I really liked... He didn’t lie to me...”
They were both Shi Tianzhu. They were the same person.
One was a child, the other had grown up.
Naturally, the same person hated deception, detested being threatened, and would not live in submission.
At critical moments, she could calmly analyze the pros and cons and quickly make decisive decisions for the greater good.
And she had a son like this.
He was truly someone she liked.
She had lived the past ten years in the deception of men and the compromises of women, always struggling in a mire of gold.
Growing up to be like this was something she was happy to see.
This was their mutual choice, not something deeply analyzed, no secret signals passed in the dark, just a shared persistence in being themselves.
When the young girl died, she was still tightly gripping the whip around her waist.
Ning Su turned to look at Shi Tianzhu. Her jaw was slightly clenched, not looking at the younger Shi Tianzhu, but instead turning her body to face forward.
She said, “Ning Su, the rest is up to you. Don’t be trapped by the past.”
After saying this, even though her jaw was tightly clenched, blood still spilled from the corner of her mouth, just like the younger Shi Tianzhu.
‘Don’t be trapped by the past.’
Then why still give him strawberry cream cake?
Why not kill him together with the human faction?
The Vampire who had just run over said in panic, “Shi Tianzhu is dead? Then we have no way to threaten the zombie Ning Su!”
Now there were only two Ning Sus left in front of them. The Vampire knew how weak Ning Su’s real body was and had seen zombie Ning Su’s combat skills against the leader of the base. “We’ll kill them directly, then find new high-level zombies to join forces against the human players!”
The more the Vampire thought about it, the more feasible it seemed. “Shi Tianzhu and Yin Qingmo are both dead. If we kill them, even without the zombie faction, we can still win!”
Before they could make a decision, Ning Su had already taken action.
Ning Su No. 2 slapped away the Gu Witch, picked up the stiff young Shi Tianzhu, and placed her next to the adult Shi Tianzhu.
Ning Su supported Shi Tianzhu to sit against the tree trunk, and Ning Su No. 2 pulled her arm to rest on little Shi Tianzhu’s back, saying, “You should hold her.”
Ning Su held her other hand. “Just consider it saying goodbye to your past self.”
Shi Tianzhu had been in the game for more than ten years, being a player for over a decade.
She had only lived as a human during her childhood.
This ten-year-old girl was the crystallization of all her normal life, her human existence.
When the twenty-six-year-old Shi Tianzhu hugged the ten-year-old Shi Tianzhu, she had already stopped breathing.
In the end, she could not embrace herself while still alive.
Between them, there was only a glance through a crack and a nod.
Seeing Ning Su No. 2 looking at them for a long time, Ning Su pursed his lips and told him a cruel yet warm truth, “Shi Tianzhu is not dead, she just left this world and went back.”
Ning Su No. 2 said something even crueler yet warmer, “She just exited the game.”
“I know.” He hooked Ning Su’s neck as he spoke, “Let’s go, I’ll help you win this game.”
The arm placed on Ning Su’s shoulder tightened. Ning Su No. 2 suddenly spun around and kicked the attacking Vampire away with a whirlwind kick.
The Vampire slid several meters on the ground before stopping. He looked at Ning Su No. 2 in disbelief, “You weren’t like this when you fought with the base commander!”
The Vampire realized, “You, the zombie king, have defected to the humans for Yinhua, and you were just pretending earlier!”
Ning Su: “On our side, Yinhua and the zombies have already cooperated to fight against humans, human faction players, and zombie faction players together.”
Vampire: “?”
The Yongming Guild arrived with players from the zombie faction. After the gate was breached, the surviving zombie faction players started running this way, one after another.
They needed to fight quickly and decisively.
Ning Su No. 2: “How do we fight?”
Ning Su stood in front of the Gu Witch. “The Gu Witch is much stronger than the Vampire, and I’m much stronger than you. So, how do you think we should fight?”
He looked up at the Gu Witch and took out the Heaven-Piercing Silk. “Great Gu Witch, let’s have a match.”
How handsome, double charm 😍
