Previously, most of the zombies in the city had gathered outside the human survivor base gate under the lead of the zombie king, Ning Su. Now, they had entered the base.
Outside the city walls, however, there were still more zombies.
From the highest point of the base, the base commander could see that apart from the dense group outside the gate, more zombies were gathering from afar.
Even standing on the 62nd floor, one couldn’t see the boundary. Each zombie was like a moving a grain of sand, and the grains formed a boundless, surging black ocean.
The human survivor base didn’t deceive the human faction players; those photos were real, showing the truth.
The “Zombie King” Ning Su was indeed gathering zombies. It wasn’t just in their city or the nearby cities. He roamed the north and south, amassing an unimaginable number of zombies.
From the player’s perspective, the sheer number was even more shocking.
[This makes my scalp tingle, it’s too terrifying!]
[Are zombies from all over the country coming here?!]
[Zhao Zhihu and Yin Qingmo weren’t wrong. The Zombie King Ning Su is really gathering zombies. He truly hates humans and wants to take revenge on humanity!]
[The hatred is so intense, even a single zombie’s spit could drown the base.]
[Crush the base into powder!]
Ning Su No. 2 stood on the city wall, the evening breeze lifting the soft hair on his forehead, revealing a pale brow.
The sunset was so red; it looked like blood in his eyes, and incredibly beautiful on his eyelashes.
He extended a hand with long, slender fingers and delicate skin. If it weren’t so unusually pale, it would be considered a pampered hand.
Black energy slowly gathered in his palm.
At first, it was like a black thread. The black threads increased, converging into a surging force that poured into his palm.
On closer inspection, each black thread briefly originated from a zombie’s head.
The black lines quickly expanded forward and backward, forming an immense web that became denser, blocking out the light, turning into a bottomless darkness, like a black cloud covering the sky.
No one could see the situation beneath the black cloud of zombies; they could only see the young man.
On the back of the young man’s pale hand, black veins became increasingly visible.
Then, after an unknown amount of time, his fingers started turning black, followed by the back of his hand, his wrist, and his arm...
The blackness spread, engulfing him.
[What is he doing? Is he absorbing the zombie virus?!]
[This is making me — I can’t even type or talk…]
[I don’t even know what I was going to say… How many zombies are there!!!!!!!]
There were fewer comments on the dungeon’s barrage screen. Many people were too shocked by the scene to speak.
Perhaps there was no mood to talk or type at all.
The thousands of players who had been to countless horror dungeon worlds were also stunned at this moment, staring blankly at the scene, unable to speak.
They quietly watched as the countless black energies were swallowed into the young man’s body. The sky darkened, and the thick darkness gradually lightened.
When the first light of dawn appeared on the horizon, the darkness gradually engulfed the young man.
His clear peach blossom eyes turned dark black, and his body was marked with black cracks, like the broken ancient patterns on porcelain.
Ning Su pushed a cart, bringing out the body of Xia Ke from the institute’s warehouse. He glanced at the bright white in the sky and touched the crumpled piece of paper in his pants pocket.
It was a message written to him by Ning Su No. 2, a note for his future self.
[That day, you asked me if I liked you. I said you were weak, and how could I like you when you have two more kids after only a month of dying?
Actually, I do like you.
You may not have noticed the changes happening in you over the past month, but I like these changes.
The light in your eyes is very bright.
You naturally call someone ‘sister’.
You tease a bad person.
You can truly trust your teammates.
They are all human, the ones you once resisted and avoided.
It must be because you met those people, those family members I never even thought of.
We weren’t abandoned children after all, we have a father and a mother, and the lingxiao flower that grew up with us is also a person.
You even adopted two children. When they carefully approached me, with a small yearning for love in their innocent eyes, I understood why you adopted them.
Thank you for telling me that the future will be so good.
All the hardships a person experiences are for the beauty of the future.
If all of one’s suffering can be exchanged for a beautiful future, it is already a blessing from heaven.
Forget me, forget all the darkness of the past, and go live a warm and bright life in the future.
This must be our common thought.
Just like when we went to devour the zombie virus, it wasn’t because those people forced or threatened us, but because after wandering north and south, we finally turned back, wanting to buy two steaming buns on the bustling, crowded streets.
I don’t know if you managed to do it.
Also, the young Shi Tianzhu asked me to tell you, “Mom loves her dear son.”]
===
When the zombies attacked the city gates, Ning Su No. 2 put the two children out of the truck to help Ning Su. He sat in the driver’s seat, writing on a piece of tattered paper he had picked up from somewhere.
The little girl next to him turned to look at him. “What are you writing?”
Ning Su No. 2: “I’m leaving a message for my future self.”
The little girl nodded, “You also know we won’t live long, that coming here is to die, right?”
Ning Su No. 2 nodded. He turned to look at the little girl and asked her, “Do you want to say something to your future self?”
The little girl shook her head. “I don’t know what she’ll be like yet, so I can’t leave her a message.”
She looked at Ning Su for a long time, carefully examining his features. When he was almost finished writing, she said to him, “Can you leave a message for me? Just say...”
She looked at Ning Su again and said, “Mom loves her dear son.”
Ning Su No. 2’s pen tip trembled, and after a black ink spot spread into a circle, he wrote down this sentence.
===
The sky was bright.
[Congratulations to the Yinhua Guild for becoming the champion of this season’s guild competition.]
[The last zombie is dead.]
[Congratulations to the Yinhua Guild for completing the main mission: protecting the human home and eliminating zombies.]
“I’m leaving now. I said I’d help you win this game.”

After the system announcement, the screen was filled with [Congratulations] and fireworks.
Zhu Shuangshuang rubbed her sore eyes and said hoarsely, “Little Daoist, do you remember? When we introduced ourselves in the bus, we talked about our causes of death.”
“I remember.” Su Wangsheng looked at the young man on the screen, “He said he died from overeating.”
Zhu Shuangshuang covered her mouth, her eyes red as she looked at the young man bathed in the morning light on the screen, “Dying from overeating is so painful.”

As the last zombie died, the main quest was completed, and the dungeon came to an end, so the future self of the last zombie did not die along with it.
He struggled to pull the small truck from the crowd of slumbering people outside the base’s gate.
He put the two children into the truck and saw the base leader standing behind him.
“Where are you going?” the leader asked.
Ning Su said, “To find all the bodies of the players’ other selves and bury them together under that tree.”
He patted the passenger seat of the truck, his eyes shining as he looked at him.
The long-limbed base leader got in.
The truck honked twice and set off from the base’s back gate, wobbling towards the distance.
The little skeletons dug 100 holes, with the largest one holding Ning Su No. 2, close to young Shi Tianzhu.
Ning Su only made a wooden sign for these holes, with the word “Human World” written on it.
As he carved the letters, he looked up to see the base leader quietly watching the freshly buried ground.
The human world was their past.
Bury the past.
Keep the human world.
But Ling Xiao didn’t even have a past; his memories were as chaotic and fragmented as his gaze.
“Give me a little red flower.”
In the very center, in Ning Su No. 2’s hole, he dug another small hole and buried the little red flower handed to him by the base leader, with the wooden sign planted above it.
The base leader was momentarily stunned and looked down at him.
The young man gave him a smile, without a trace of hesitation.
I'm crying.
