Lu Qin glanced down at his son, silently carried him back to the car, and used a new wet wipe to gently clean his face.
He suspected that just now Pei Dundun wiped his face, then his feet, and then his face again. Otherwise, how did the blue from his soles get onto his forehead?
After cleaning Pei Dundun’s face to a recognizable state, Lu Qin remembered he had newly bought children’s fishing gear in the trunk. He said, “Dundun, wake up and let’s go fishing. Daddy will cook instant noodles with fish soup for you tonight. Little kids can have an extra serving of fish soup with noodles.”
The last time he came to Greenwood Manor, he noticed there was a big pond for fishing and barbecuing. Bringing Dundun to fish and coincidentally meeting Pei Rong would be perfectly reasonable.
He had no right to rush in and stop Pei Rong from his blind date, especially since Pei Rong had already caught him on a date once.
And since both were at Greenwood Manor, he had even less right.
Lu Qin couldn’t let Pei Rong think he was trying to control his life again.
Fishing? Instant noodles?
Pei Dundun’s eyelids twitched.
Lu Qin added fuel to the fire. “We’re already at the entrance. Wake up, and you’ll see Daddy.”
Pei Dundun rubbed his head against Lu Qin’s arm and opened his eyes energetically. “Where’s Daddy?”
Lu Qin pointed to the guardhouse. “Go say hello to the security uncle, or we won’t be able to get in.”
Pei Dundun climbed to the side of the car window facing the guardhouse and stuck his head out. “Um, hello Uncle Jing!”
The security guard heard the familiar little voice, looked down, and whoa, that little face was really Dundun now that it was clean.
Pei Dundun had grown his hair out recently and changed its color, making it quite a challenge for the older generation to recognize him.
“Dundun, what happened to you?”
Pei Dundun’s half-green hair swayed, and he wore a full set of “camouflage clothes,” blending into the bushes without a problem.
“Dundun was painting. Uncle, can you let me in?”
“Of course, of course.” The security guard stepped out of the guardhouse, walked to the car door, and said sternly, “Dundun can enter, but Mr. Lu cannot.”
Lu Qin: “...”
Was the punishment for not having a card really that severe?
Pei Dundun was eager to rush in, but Lu Qin held him by the back of his neck. “Are you going to leave Daddy behind?”
Pei Dundun froze. Oh right, they were going to fish and cook instant noodles. Dad was good to him; he had to be loyal.
Lu Qin drove to another fork in the road, out of the security guard’s sight, and put the little guy on the ground. “The place where Daddy works doesn’t allow entry. Let’s go home and wait for him.”
Pei Dundun nodded, stretched his short legs, and started walking home.
He had been back and forth between the manor and the villa several times and wouldn’t get lost.
Lu Qin followed the little boy without making a sound. He guessed correctly that Pei Rong couldn’t stay in the manor and had a house nearby, within walking distance.
Very cunning indeed!
Pei Dundun walked about a hundred meters and encountered a little yellow dog. It had gotten a bit fatter over the past few days and still ran away whenever it saw him.
Pei Dundun complained to Lu Qin, “Ah Huang has eaten quite a few of my bones.”
Lu Qin replied, “Because it’s a puppy, it’s good for it to be a bit more alert. Dundun should be the same.”
Pei Dundun looked up at Daddy Lu, recalling that he was a little secret agent.
How could he take his dad home?
Daddy Lu took him on a motorcycle ride, took him fishing, and cooked instant noodles for him. Pei Dundun really liked Daddy Lu, but… his dad’s words were the most important.
Lu Qin slightly raised an eyebrow and picked up Pei Dundun, understandingly asking, “Is it that you can’t take me home?”
Pei Dundun nodded.
Lu Qin’s goal was already half achieved. The bodyguards were already keeping watch on Pei Rong’s house, but now he wanted to go to the manor. “Dundun, is there a way to secretly bring Daddy into the manor?”
In Pei Dundun’s understanding, strangers came in and out of the manor every day. Even the kid who he disliked for bullying Orange could get in. There was no reason Daddy Lu couldn’t.
He exclaimed in surprise, “Daddy, are you looking for a dog hole in the manor?”
Although he knew all the information about the dog holes, there were none in the manor.
Lu Qin was taken aback. “Other than a dog hole.”
Pei Dundun’s black-and-white eyes sparkled with excitement, and he clenched his little fist, “There is a way.”
“Daddy, follow me this way.”
Lu Qin gave instructions, “When we see anyone, say that Dundun wanted to go fishing, so we came in.”
Pei Dundun was eager to go on an adventure with Daddy Lu and agreed without hesitation, “Okay.”
Lu Qin carried Pei Dundun for five minutes, then saw a lake. On the other side of the lake was the manor. The sky was gradually getting dark, and the lights under the eaves flickered, their reflections shimmering in the heart of the lake.
The lake was a natural barrier, so there was no fence on this side.
Lu Qin remained silent. Did he really have to swim across? He could do it, but he had never tried swimming with a child on his back.
Moreover, he would be drenched and in a sorry state, and no matter how handsome he was, he would lose to his rival.
Pei Dundun continued to direct, “Keep walking forward.”
Lu Qin walked along the lakeshore for five minutes, making a semicircle. Ahead was a courtyard that shared a wall with the estate; they were neighbors.
Pei Dundun climbed down from him. “This is it.”
Lu Qin: “?”
Pei Dundun confidently said, “This is Grandma Wang’s house. There’s a door we can use to get in.”
One day, Grandma Wang didn’t close the door tightly, and her big white goose ran into the estate and even pecked his butt!
Pei Dundun was back and had brought a super powerful helper!
Lu Qin considered whether to enter the courtyard first and then knock on the door or stand outside and call the owner out to communicate. Pei Dundun pushed the gate and slipped in familiarly.
Lu Qin immediately disregarded courtesy. It was getting dark, and he didn’t dare let Pei Dundun disappear from his sight for a moment.
“Dundun.”
He chased in, expecting a beautiful garden inside the estate, but instead saw a... goose pen.
“Dad, help me!” Pei Dundun was planning to sneak attack from behind, but as soon as he got close, he startled the big white goose, which was about to rest. It flapped its wings with great power.
Pei Dundun’s pupils dilated. He had grown heavier and stronger, but so had the goose!
Pei Dundun, both clumsy and eager for revenge, scrambled to climb onto Lu Qin. The goose fought with its beak; he couldn’t use his, so he was at a disadvantage.
Lu Qin caught Pei Dundun. His stature was enough to intimidate a hissing, head-stretching goose.
The goose stood at the pen gate, neck stretched, honking aggressively, staring provocatively at Pei Dundun.
Pei Dundun wanted to fight again. “Dad, it pecked my butt last time.”
