Pei Rong had always wanted to experience queuing up to buy a jianbing guozi (savory Chinese crepe). However, his strikingly handsome face often attracted too much attention, and the auntie's stall always had a line of customers. Every time he passed by, he reluctantly gave up on the idea.
Finally holding the freshly made jianbing in his hands, Pei Rong could sense it was slightly different from the ones delivered by food delivery riders.
Since Pei Rong was quite disciplined about his diet, he rarely ordered food from small street vendors and usually didn’t think about eating snacks like this. But when passing by, the tempting aroma of the food often lured him, making him want to have it immediately.
Lu Qin rode over on his small electric scooter, stopping half a meter away from the stall. Pei Rong pulled the hood of his sweatshirt over his head and leaned against Lu Qin’s back to avoid drawing attention.
Feeling Beauty Pei voluntarily press against him, Lu Qin, who had initially felt disdain for the combination of an electric scooter and a street food stall, suddenly stiffened. For a moment, he secretly hoped that the line of customers ahead would get longer. Or maybe the two people waiting behind them could cut in line.
Unfortunately, with Lu Qin's tall and intimidating presence coupled with Pei Rong’s equally striking and slender figure, their imposing aura made it clear that no one dared to cut ahead of them.
Their turn came quickly. Lu Qin coldly listed the ingredients he wanted for the jianbing, only to be pinched on the arm by Pei Rong, who whispered, “You forgot the crispy bits.”
Lu Qin gritted his teeth. “You didn’t mention crispy bits earlier.”
Pei Rong replied, “I want them now.”
Lu Qin, not one to be easily swayed, turned to the vendor and said firmly, “Just add one portion of crispy bits.”
Resting his chin on Lu Qin’s shoulder, Pei Rong spoke in a voice that seemed like an intimate whisper, “But both Jiang Yan and I love crispy bits. When we were abroad, we couldn’t find them anywhere and thought about them every day.”
A vein twitched on Lu Qin’s forehead. So, out of the two portions, there wasn’t even one for him?
“Not buying it anymore,” he said.
Was he not allowed to enjoy jianbing guozi in peace?
Despite his words, Lu Qin didn’t release the brake on the scooter.
Pei Rong chuckled silently and, deepening his voice, said to the vendor, “One jianbing with two extra eggs, and sprinkle on more sesame seeds.”
“Got it!” The vendor cheerfully cracked two eggs against the edge of the griddle and added them.
Pei Rong glanced at the price list, did some quick math, then took out his phone and scanned 40 yuan to pay.
Lu Qin, still sulking, missed his chance to pay and, with it, lost any say in how the jianbing would be shared.
Silently, Lu Qin switched his phone to the legal consultation app and typed: Does spanking someone twice count as domestic violence?
The chief lawyer responded: "How could such an adorable little one possibly have ill intentions? Kids make mistakes as part of exploration and growth. I suggest verbal education instead, President Lu."
"…Smoke less in the future."
Sincerely hoping that you can hold out until Pei Dundun takes over—experience it for yourself.
The chief lawyer was deeply moved. "Thank you, Mr. Lu, for your concern. I'm quitting. I won't smoke in front of the child anymore."
Lu Qin hung up his phone. The person he was calling about was none other than the kid's other father!
The boss vendor said, "Alright."
Pei Rong extended his hand to take it. "Thank you."
The boss was momentarily startled by how fair and delicate Pei Rong's fingers were. He couldn't help but look up at his face, but all he could see were a few strands of black hair peeking out from under his cap.
Lu Qin twisted the throttle of his electric scooter, which sped forward at 20 km/h. The wheels glided silently over the asphalt, a sharp contrast to the storm of anger brewing in his chest.
Pei Rong noticed that Lu Qin was about to turn toward the manor and reminded him, "Let’s go home first. Pancakes taste best when they’re hot."
Lu Qin snorted coldly. He wasn’t getting any of the pancakes anyway. But it had been a week since Dundun last saw Pei Rong, so heading home first seemed fine.
Pei Dundun was playing in the living room with Orange. Hearing the sound of the big iron gate opening outside, his little legs scampered toward the door. He shouted loudly, "Daddy!"
He was wearing light blue denim overalls with one strap slipping off his small arm. Standing by the doorframe, his tiny figure looked utterly adorable, triggering a surge of paternal affection.
Pei Rong climbed three steps in a single stride, crouched down, and hugged Dundun. "Daddy missed you so much. Here’s a jianbing guozi for you—a deluxe double-egg portion. Share it with Uncle Jiang."
"And it even has ketchup! Daddy, you’re the best!" Pei Dundun clutched the warm, paper-wrapped pancake, bouncing happily over to the sofa. He handed the pancake to Jiang Yan, who was absorbed in his phone.
Jiang Yan opened the bag, let Dundun take the first bite of the egg, and then pulled him onto his lap. They alternated bites, sharing the pancake.
For things Pei Dundun liked but couldn’t have too much of, he had to share two-thirds with his family to ration them out.
Pei Rong was a bit harsher, often taking three-quarters. Jiang Yan was more indulgent, which made him Dundun’s favorite sharing partner.
Lu Qin glanced at the other bag in Pei Rong’s hand. Did he hear that right? A deluxe double-egg portion? Could he and Pei Rong share one too?
Wouldn’t that taste better than having one each?
Pei Rong calmly explained, "If I sneak a pancake or instant noodles outside, no matter how long I take to get home, Dundun will sniff it out."
And once caught, Dundun would pout his little lips and launch into a guilt trip: Daddy, you didn’t save me even a bite? I’m not greedy; I only wanted a tiny taste…
Lu Qin's expression darkened, then turned livid. If Pei Rong willingly shared with him, he’d let this matter slide tonight and wait until after winning over his wife to settle accounts.
Pei Rong caught sight of Lu Qin’s wolfish gaze, like a dog staring at a bone, and asked, “Do you want some too?”
Lu Qin said nothing, but his gaze softened slightly.
Pei Rong nodded. “I’ll give it to you after I eat half.”
Lu Qin: Is there no other way?
“I don’t eat cold food.”
Pei Rong handed him the oiled paper bag. “Here, you eat first.”
Lu Qin thought to himself, 'If I let my wife eat cold food, wouldn’t that make me the cold one?'
Even Pei Dundun couldn’t stand it anymore. The delicious pancake was about to go cold, so he anxiously directed, “This daddy takes one bite, then that daddy takes one bite. Just like me and Uncle Jiang!”
After saying that, his chubby little hands grabbed Uncle Jiang’s hand and took a big bite of egg yolk.
The crispy outer layer was left for Jiang Yan to bite into, and every time it was Dundun’s turn, it just so happened to be the spot where he had already bitten into the egg.
There had to be some adult-level scheming involved here, but Pei Rong didn’t mind. If you got too serious about these things, you’d end up with no pancake to eat. What kid in the world doesn’t understand that?
The little rascal was worth spoiling.
Lu Qin silently decided to reward Dundun with a pancake cart and even planned to open a pancake stall in the cafeteria of the Lu Corporation building.
That way, when the little kid took over the family business, he could eat pancakes in the office whenever he wanted.
Pei Rong took a bite of the pancake and handed it to Lu Qin. “Fine, here you go.”
