‘Ruan Qing’ glanced at the man indifferently, then, without a shred of hesitation, lay back down and resumed sleeping.
The other three didn’t say anything and instead began their night watch earnestly. However, whether due to a lack of sufficient rest or something else, all of them began to feel sleepy.
Wang Qian, one of those on watch during the latter half of the night, pinched her thigh hard when she felt drowsy, trying to keep herself awake. But it was no use.
Sleepiness crept into her mind, invading her brain like an unstoppable tide. Not even the pain could resist it.
Wang Qian felt her eyelids growing heavier and her vision increasingly blurred. Just as she was about to lose consciousness, she vaguely saw a figure beside her stand up and walk toward the restroom.
She wanted to reach out and grab them, but her exhaustion made even lifting her hand a challenge. In the end, she could only watch helplessly as the figure headed to the restroom before she succumbed to sleep.
...
“Ahhh!!!” A woman’s piercing scream shattered the silence, waking everyone from their slumber.
“What happened!?”
“What’s going on!?”
“What’s wrong!?”
The one screaming was Wang Qian. Her face was deathly pale as she shakily pointed in the direction of the restroom, her finger trembling. “Dead… Dead…”
“He’s dead!”
The others followed her trembling finger toward the restroom. In the next moment, they were greeted with the sight of a horribly mutilated corpse.
The body inside the restroom was torn apart, its severed parts jagged and irregular, as though something had ripped it apart with brute force. Organs were scattered everywhere, creating a grisly and horrifying scene.
The group stared at the blood splattered on the walls, their expressions filled with terror and dread.
One look at the state of the body was enough to confirm that it was not the work of a human. No person could have the strength to rip a body apart like that.
Moreover, they hadn’t heard a single sound last night, despite such a violent scene unfolding.
Wang Qian’s voice trembled as she spoke. “Last night, I don’t know what happened, but I suddenly felt so, so sleepy… And in a daze, I saw him walking toward the restroom…”
Even without her saying it outright, everyone understood what must have happened.
The players identified the deceased. It was the same person who had used an unconventional, forceful method to open the room’s door last night.
This confirmed it: in this game instance, violent means could not be used to enter rooms.
After searching the corpse for clues and finding nothing, the players quickly left the room.
It was only the second day since entering this game instance, a point when supernatural entities were usually still restrained. Yet, three people had already died.
All the players felt their hearts sink uncontrollably. They began investigating with even greater caution, almost to the point of avoiding touching anything in the residential area.
However, this also meant that despite investigating all morning, they were still getting nowhere.
None of the residents in the residential area were walking around, nor was anyone willing to engage with them. There was no progress on finding any clues about the instance.
They were essentially stuck in a deadlock.
Just as the players were starting to despair, 'Ruan Qing' tilted his head slightly in confusion and said, "It looks like there’s someone over there."
The players instinctively turned to look in the direction 'Ruan Qing' had pointed.
They were already near the residential area's entrance, and the direction 'Ruan Qing' was looking at was outside the residential area.
Across from the residential area was the sales office—the sales office for the same housing complex. Surprisingly, the sales office was staffed.
Even from their current position, they could vaguely see someone inside explaining houses to potential customers.
In fact, the sales office had been spotted by some players the day before, but none of them had dared to approach it.
This was because, in most instances, players were not allowed to leave the core area of the instance. Leaving it often resulted in death.
But there was clearly nothing more to uncover inside this residential area. The players exchanged hesitant glances before ultimately turning their eyes to Lan Xu.
Lan Xu stared at the people inside the sales office, lost in thought for a few seconds. Finally, he slowly started walking toward the sales office.
The other players immediately followed him, but as they reached the residential area’s gate, they all paused, standing still and silently watching Lan Xu step out of the residential area's boundaries.
Nothing happened.
Leaving the residential area... wouldn’t result in death.
The players’ eyes lit up with joy, and they quickly ran out of the residential area to catch up with Lan Xu.
The sales office indeed had people inside, and quite a few of them.
A salesperson in a sharp suit saw potential clients approaching and immediately walked over with a radiant smile. "Hello! Are you here to look at houses?"
"This is the most luxurious residential area in the entire city, featuring the most extravagant interiors and amenities. Choosing this place is absolutely the best decision you could make..."
Wang Qian had no interest in listening to the sales pitch. She urgently interrupted, "What happened in this residential area before? Why don’t any of the residents come outside?"
Wang Qian's words caused the entire sales office to fall silent. All the sales staff turned their heads, staring at the group with piercing gazes, their earlier smiles still hanging on their faces, which made them look eerily unsettling.
Wang Qian's face immediately turned pale. Goosebumps rose all over her body, and cold sweat started to bead on her forehead. She instinctively wanted to run away.
Sensing that something was wrong, Lin Rong quickly grabbed Wang Qian and immediately turned to the sales staff, speaking rapidly, “How is the house sold? How much is it per square meter? What’s the minimum down payment? What’s the shared area ratio? Is there any bonus space included? When is the soonest we can move in?”
Seeing the sales staff look at her, Lin Rong quickly put on a polite smile and added, “Since we’re considering buying a house, it’s only natural to get all this information clear.”
The sales staff’s smile grew even brighter. “Of course.”
The other sales staff also resumed their normal demeanor, returning to their respective clients and continuing their house introductions.
The salesperson in front of the players did the same, providing a very detailed explanation that was no different from what a regular salesperson would do.
However, the players didn’t dare to let their guard down or ask any reckless questions. Instead, they focused intently on the salesperson’s explanations.
The events of the previous night had taught everyone that forcing their way into the residential area through violence was almost suicidal. After listening to the salesperson’s introduction, the players eventually used points to exchange for money and bought one of the units.
When it came time to register the property, the group originally thought of casually putting one person’s name on it. However, they didn’t expect the salesperson to tell them that the name of the person who paid must be written down.
The points had been contributed by all the players, but the payment was processed through Lan Xu’s account. Lan Xu hesitated for a moment before ultimately writing down his name.
Yet, the salesperson smiled again and repeated their words, “The name of everyone who paid must be written down.”
The players were stunned and turned to look at the salesperson in surprise. Did he know that all of them had contributed points?
