Ruan Qing shifted on the bed, his movements gradually becoming more pronounced, almost shifting to a considerably different position.
But the zombie showed no reaction.
Only when he tried to get off the bed did the zombie react.
Clearly, the zombie truly wouldn’t allow him to get off the bed.
After confirming this, Ruan Qing stopped looking at the zombie and instead carefully observed the room’s situation.
It didn’t seem like a residential area here, neither in structure nor in decoration.
Looking out from the corner window, there was only mechanical equipment, more like some kind of factory.
And this bedroom appears to be a temporary residence within the factory, with no household items inside, making it very spacious.
After not finding anything useful, Ruan Qing lowered his gaze and gently rolled up his pant leg.
Preparing to check his ankle.
Ruan Qing originally thought it was just a minor sprain, but it turned out to be much more severe than he had imagined.
The ankle was covered in bruises, looking terrifying against the fair skin, with the area around the ankle already swollen.
Even a light touch was painful.
Now, he probably couldn’t even run if he wanted to.
More importantly, Ruan Qing wasn’t sure if the zombies had infected him.
With so many zombies surrounding him at the time, any slight injury could have turned him into one.
Ruan Qing checked his hands and legs, but didn’t see any obvious wounds, and his clothes didn’t seem torn either.
Besides the ankle, he didn’t feel any pain anywhere else on his body.
But if it’s just a minor abrasion, he might not necessarily feel any pain.
And he couldn’t see if he was injured himself.
Ruan Qing pursed his pale pink lips and ultimately gave up the inspection.
As long as he hadn’t mutated into a zombie, there was still a chance to pass the instance.
Although he only had a superficial understanding of cellular genetics, as long as he had the data and time, he might be able to solve the zombie virus.
And he didn’t need to start from scratch.
Because Ruan Qing suspected that someone deliberately created the zombie virus.
If the zombie virus had really only accidentally broken out, it should have spread outward in a circle.
But City A had a comprehensive zombie outbreak, covering too wide an area, which didn’t seem like an accidental spread at all.
Moreover, the geographical location of City A made Ruan Qing very uneasy, as it was too coincidental.
This island, which was in the middle of a lake, could be said to be completely isolated from other places. If there was a problem with the signal, the outside world might not know what happened in time.
The people on the island couldn’t ask for help from the outside world, either.
When Ruan Qing first entered the instance, he felt that it was too coincidental that there was no signal on his phone.
But at that time, he only thought that there was a problem with the signal tower at the school. However, after escaping from the vicinity of the school, Ruan Qing found that his phone still had no signal at all.
It was normal for a signal tower to have a problem, but if all the signal towers in the city had problems, then it was definitely abnormal.
It was as if someone had deliberately cut off the entire City A’s signal and isolated City A.
Although Ruan Qing hadn’t seen the bridge leading out of City A yet, she speculated that it was likely impassable.
To find out if someone planned all of this wouldn’t be difficult; one only needed to go to the airport or the port to understand what was happening.
If someone deliberately caused the apocalypse, they probably wouldn’t allow anyone to leave City A.
So, it was highly likely that there were issues with boats and planes leaving City A.
However, these were all just Ruan Qing’s speculations. The urgent matter at hand was how to escape.
The current situation was truly terrible.
The fact that the zombie didn’t allow him to get off the bed but also didn’t bite him meant that the zombie very likely had developed some level of consciousness.
It was extremely terrifying for a creature that fed on humans to develop consciousness.
As Ruan Qing thought about this, he looked at the terrifying zombie in front of him and nervously swallowed saliva before speaking softly, “Can I... go get my bag?”
Ruan Qing spoke while reaching out, pointing to the messenger bag not far away.
As Ruan Qing spoke, his whole body was tense, and his eyes were filled with anxiety and nervousness, fearing that his voice might agitate the zombie.
But continuing to be in a deadlock here would only become increasingly dangerous. Nobody knew what this zombie was up to.
Moreover, Ruan Qing also wanted to understand to what extent the zombie had developed consciousness.
So he tried to communicate with the zombie.
When Ruan Qing pointed to the messenger bag not far away, the zombie seemed to not understand Ruan Qing’s meaning, tilting its head in confusion.
If it were an ordinary person making this gesture, it would probably be very normal, but the zombie’s face was bloody and distorted, with one eye missing.
Because of this tilt, a chunk of flesh fell off its face, looking extremely terrifying.
Ruan Qing, caught off guard by this scene, retreated back into the corner, his face turning even paler, his body trembling slightly.
Fortunately, aside from tilting its head, the zombie didn’t make any other movements.
The zombie currently seemed to have little consciousness, but it still responded to him speaking.
And this was only the second day of the apocalypse.
Perhaps it wouldn’t be long before the zombies’ intelligence grew higher.
The mutated zombie, driven by instinct to feed on humans, had in a way become a monster and would never perceive humans as its own kind.
Ruan Qing took a deep breath and slowed down his speech, emphasizing each word as he pointed again to the messenger bag on the sofa. “I want... to get back... my messenger bag.”
He even gestured with his hand to illustrate the shape of the messenger bag.
After Ruan Qing finished speaking this time, the zombie followed his direction to look at the bag on the sofa, then turned back to Ruan Qing, making a “hehe” sound.
It seemed to be objecting, yet also agreeing.
Ruan Qing couldn’t discern any emotions from the zombie’s eyes, nor did he know what the zombie meant, or even if the zombie understood him.
But after the zombie let out a ‘hehe’ sound twice, Ruan Qing attempted to move towards the edge of the bed.
Then he slowly and gently lowered his legs onto the floor.
Ruan Qing kept observing the zombie’s reaction while he did this. This time, the zombie didn’t move again, just staring straight at him.
Ruan Qing lightly placed his feet on the ground, then stood up, and the zombie still didn’t move.
Obviously, the two “hehe” sounds just now meant it agreed for him to retrieve the bag.
Ruan Qing limped over to the sofa, moving very slowly, still observing the zombie’s condition as he walked.
If anything seemed wrong, he would immediately return to the bed.
wow second day and the zombies are already so smart, i can imagine them acting like humans after a while
