Xia Ke said, “He’s the highest-level zombie? We need to kill him? Are you joking?”
Zhou Zhihu said, “What joking? We are very serious. He is the most dangerous zombie, capable of suppressing all zombies in the city.”
“He has been gathering zombies recently, not only from within the city, but also from other places. Very dangerous! Killing him has always been an S-level task for our base!”
Zhou Zhihu took out a few more photos of him gathering zombies to show them. “If we don’t kill him first, as he gathers more and more zombies, we will definitely be defeated, and everyone will be doomed! The city will be annihilated!”
“Once we kill him, the zombies will turn into aimless wandering dead bodies, making it easier to deal with them!”
Shi Tianzhu, who hadn’t spoken for a long time, glanced at the silent base leader sitting at the center, then turned to Zhou Zhihu and said, “Are you sure he intends to gather zombies to destroy the city?”
“Yes,” another person at the meeting table said.
He was wearing a light blue shirt underneath a white coat, clean and elegant.
In contrast to Zhou Zhihu’s excitement, he was very calm, exuding a more convincing aura.
A blue ID was pinned on his white coat, with his name, Lu Weiming, on it.
“Hello, I am Lu Weiming, the head of the zombie research group.”
Seeing everyone looking at him, he first introduced himself politely and then continued the previous topic, “Gathering zombies has clearly indicated his intention. I don’t know why you don’t believe it. Since that’s the case, let me tell you another piece of evidence to support this.”
“That advanced zombie, he hates humans and really wants to destroy humanity.”
Shi Tianzhu calmly asked, “Where does this intense hatred, enough to destroy humanity, come from?”
Lu Weiming said, “He used to be a human in this base, but he was kicked out and became a zombie.”
Zhou Zhihu added, “Well, it’s not accurate to say he was kicked out. He went out on a mission, got bitten by a zombie, and then turned into one.”
“Stop being evasive. Just going out on a mission and becoming a zombie wouldn’t make him harbor such strong hatred,” Lu Weiming countered.
Jia Chengsheng asked, “Why did you kick him out?”
Lu Weiming’s face showed disgust. “He was born different, with filthy and sinful blood running through his veins.”
Yin Qingmo laughed. “As a doctor, I’m very curious. How did you determine his blood was filthy and sinful?”
“I certainly know,” Lu Weiming said with a frown, annoyed by the doubt. “His blood is black!”
Sensing the tense atmosphere, Zhou Zhihu quickly stood up and said, “Professor Lu is not talking nonsense. He’s a double PhD in medical biology from a top university, a renowned biology expert before the apocalypse, a genius!”
To convince them of Ning Su’s hatred and threat to humanity, Lu Weiming decided to reveal everything.
“When he was at the base, I noticed something was wrong with his abilities. At the time, we wanted to kick him out. He didn’t want to leave, so I told him to accept our research to prove he was fine.”
“He agreed and was studied in the lab for more than ten days.”
“We still thought he was a dangerous variant, so the day after he was sent home from the lab, we kicked him out.”
“Later, he turned into a zombie. When he was at his weakest, just after transforming, we captured this precious specimen and conducted even more thorough research on him in the lab. After recovering, he blew up the lab and escaped from the base.”
He pointed to the first photo Zhou Zhihu took out. “This photo was taken when he escaped from the base. Didn’t you see the hatred in his eyes when he looked back at the base?”
“Precious specimen?” Yin Qingmo found it even more absurd. “How did you conduct your research?”
Lu Weiming responded, “You said you were a doctor. Haven’t you encountered this? Dissection, poison testing, more thorough research.”
Yin Qingmo slammed the table and angrily pointed at him. “What kind of expert are you? Do you even deserve to wear that coat?”
The slamming was loud and deafening.
The table shook, and the cups on it wobbled.
Lu Weiming tugged at his spotless white lab coat, frowned, and looked up displeased, ready to argue. But before he could speak, a white object wrapped in red flew straight towards his eye.
The image imprinted on his pupils suddenly enlarged. It happened so fast that he didn’t have time to blink before it splattered into his eye, blinding him.
Terrified screams erupted in the conference room.
The sound of a water cup hitting the ground, chairs toppling, and bodies crashing to the floor mingled with the sharp cries.
Lu Weiming’s eye was tearing up madly from the foreign object. He endured the pain, dug the thing out of his eye, and through his blurry vision, first saw blood.
Then he recognized, very professionally, that the white beneath the red was brain matter.
He looked up and saw that the person who had just been pointing at him and cursing only had a body left below the neck.
No head anymore.
His head had unexpectedly exploded, splattering all over the conference room.
Several people hit by the splatter jumped away, screaming.
Only the few collaborators and the base chief remained seated steadily .
Cracks appeared on the table, their origin unknown.
Zhou Zhihu walked over from behind. “W-What’s going on? Is this what it means to be so angry that your head explodes? It seems we really shouldn’t get angry. We should discuss things calmly.”
No one responded to him, and he stood there awkwardly, laughing.
The few players knew what had happened.
Another version of Yin Qingmo had died.
They certainly couldn’t explain this to the others.
The players were silent, not speaking for a long time.
Jia Chensheng saw Xia Ke tightly gripping her pen, and for some reason, he suddenly looked at Shi Tianzhu.
He increasingly felt that Shi Tianzhu was a smart, calm, and strong-willed person, hard to surpass.
But then he saw her sitting straight, her head lowered, with slightly red eyes at the corners.
He was stunned for a moment, thinking, there’s no need for that.
Yin Qingmo’s tragic death would indeed be uncomfortable for a teammate with a close relationship.
But this wasn’t real death. It’s just a game match. When the match ended, Yin Qingmo would reappear safe and sound at the game base.
Ordinary players could understand this, let alone the cold-hearted Shi Tianzhu.
When he looked again, Shi Tianzhu turned to look out the window.
Outside the window, the sky was still filled with sunset glow, fiery red and magnificent, as if blood was flowing in the blue-black sky.
With such an event happening, there was no point in discussing further today.
The players agreed to meet tomorrow and left the human survivor base.
The atmosphere was silent on the way back.
Jia Chensheng walked a distance, contemplating before speaking. “The dungeon setting is obviously aimed at removing one of our powerful teammates.”
He analyzed the dungeon seriously. “It looks unfavorable for our faction, but there’s opportunity hidden in the shadows.”
Xia Ke responded, “How so?”
Jia Chensheng continued, “The dungeon plot has already told us that the zombie horde, particularly the leader, is extremely difficult to deal with. To win, we need to eliminate the zombie leader, but the base has never been able to do it. This indicates how formidable the zombie leader must be.”
“But we can do it. We can lure the leader into confronting its own kind, catching it off guard.”
There was a pause in the air.
Jia Chensheng hurriedly added, “I know this might upset you when I say this, but please hear me out.”
“This is inevitable for everyone. It’s not just about making the leader act this way.”
“Given the plot’s progression, I believe you’ve realized that humans and zombies are truly relentless enemies. Only one side can survive.”
“The system’s task is to protect our homeland. We’re here to safeguard the human homeland. To achieve this goal, we may have to eliminate all zombies, including—our other selves.”
Jia Chensheng sighed, “The ultimate goal of this dungeon may be to make us kill our former selves.”
Thanks for the update
