After Lu Qin took his child to the meeting, the intensity of paternal love was off the charts.
He initially planned that if Dundun didn’t cooperate during the meeting, he would pause the meeting, have his secretary take over, and then take his child for a walk around the rooftop corridor. He also expected that Dundun would interrupt whenever someone spoke, and if it happened more than three times, he would take Dundun to the office and just do a video conference.
However, none of these unexpected situations occurred. Dundun just sat in a high baby chair, maintaining eye level with the adults, quietly looking at picture books. Whenever Lu Qin spoke, Dundun would look at him with those beautiful, expressive eyes and even join in the applause.
Amidst a heap of applause, Lu Qin could discern the soft claps of his child. Turning his head, he saw that the little one seemed naturally suited for meetings, neither shy nor rowdy, especially small amidst the adults. While others had tea on their desks, his table had a baby bottle.
Seeing him looking over, the child blinked.
Pei Rong must not have said anything bad about him in front of the child and had even bolstered his image as a father, otherwise Dundun wouldn’t behave like this.
Lu Qin’s heart stirred slightly. Maybe he wasn’t seen as entirely unforgivable in Pei Rong’s eyes?
Madam Jiang said she wanted to take care of her grandson, but since Lu Qin was personally involved in all meetings, she waited in the office until the meeting ended. When Dundun returned, she asked him what he wanted to eat.
Dundun asked, “Can I eat Dad’s cooking?”
The only thing in the world that could rival instant noodles was Daddy Lu’s meatballs.
If those meatballs could be added to instant noodles, it would be even better.
Lu Qin was moved by the father-son bond that went both ways. After the week’s overtime ended that day, he left work half an hour early to avoid missing his son’s mealtime.
Madam Jiang was surprised. “Did you make the child’s meal at noon?”
Seeing the delicate dishes on the table, she thought a special chef had been hired.
It seemed that when it came to raising his son, Lu Qin had been impeccable, so she didn’t need to worry about the father and son living in chaos.
Lu Qin asked, “Would you like to have dinner together tonight?”
Madam Jiang nodded.
As Lu Qin was about to carry his child to the parking lot, Pei Dundun couldn’t help but say, “Dad, can you carry Orange? Orange can’t walk.”
Dundun could walk on his own; the child hadn’t touched the ground all day.
Lu Qin put his son down. “It’s quite far. Can you walk?”
Pei Dundun brought Orange over and shoved it into Lu Qin’s arms. “I can walk.”
“Dundun walks so steadily, so impressive,” Madam Jiang praised from behind. She noticed that the bottom of Dundun’s bottle was scratched and had several dents. “Why haven’t you given him a new bottle?”
Was the living condition originally quite austere?
Lu Qin said, “He likes this; once it’s disinfected, it’s good to use. New ones aren’t necessarily better than old ones.”
He found that Dundun was quite sentimental; he liked everything old and didn’t throw away anything Pei Rong bought.
It would be great if Pei Rong were this sentimental.
Lu Qin thought sourly to himself that if Pei Rong bought him something, even if it was from a street vendor, he would like it and wear it to meetings every day without any issue.
Upon reaching the company’s entrance, Secretary Gao drove up in a car equipped with a child safety seat installed. Except for a Bentley under his name, all of Lu Qin’s cars had emergency-installed safety seats.
Dundun obediently climbed up and even fastened his own seatbelt.
Lu Qin decisively decided to drive himself.
Madam Jiang sat beside the child seat and discussed with Lu Qin, “I also want to organize a first birthday celebration and introduce Dundun to everyone.”
Lu Qin replied, “Dundun is 20 months old.”
Madam Jiang said, “A 20-month celebration works too!”
It sounded extraordinary; surely, he would become exceptional.
Dundun was so adorable that he must be introduced to everyone. In the past, it was only Madam Jiang who envied others, but from today on, the whole world would envy her.
No one was more polite, intelligent, and beautiful than her Dundun.
Lu Qin gripped the steering wheel with both hands and said without hesitation, “Let’s plan it for when Dundun turns two.”
Madam Jiang took a moment to react and then calmed down from her excited state. Her son hadn’t even caught up to Dundun’s other father yet, so it wasn’t appropriate to hold a banquet at this point. It seemed as if the Lu family only valued their grandson.
However... Madam Jiang looked at her grandson, then glanced at Lu Qin. If they could bring back Xiao Dundun, did Lu Qin really have a chance?
Father and son bundled sales come with complimentary shares, and they still had to beg Pei Rong to buy them.
In ancient times, they could even have Lu Jianye send lavish gifts to the door, using multiple avenues.
Lu Qin caught a glimpse of his mother’s disapproving gaze in the rearview mirror, and his heart sank.
In just four months, even if Pei Rong was as elusive as a cunning rabbit’s three burrows, he would be dug out!
He had already found out that Pei Rong had recently logged onto Weibo and had checked the purchase records for Pei Dundun’s watch model.
Madam Jiang expressed her concerns, “I’m worried you won’t even know where to send the invitations when the time comes.”
Lu Qin gritted his teeth, “If worse comes to worst, the Lu family can send a public letter on Weibo and tag him.”
Madam Jiang thought this was a good idea, so she began actively planning the birthday banquet again: “What do you think about getting a batch of wines from the year of Dundun’s birth? We can open a bottle each year to thank our guests, and continue until 100 years old, living a long and healthy life. The more we drink, the more mellow it gets.”
“Dundun was born the winter before last. The sunshine was excellent that year when Pei Rong was expecting him. I know a winery that produced a batch of top-notch red wine.”
Suddenly, Lu Qin remembered the two bottles of wine he had at Greenwood Manor, with the grape harvest year also being the year before last.
It turned out that the sunshine was indeed good the year before last, but Pei Rong wasn’t around; he didn’t care about the weather or fruits.
Those two bottles of fake wine...
Lu Qin stopped his mother. “That’s a good idea; I’ll take care of it.”
Once he caught up with Pei Rong, he would go to Greenwood Manor and buy 100 bottles of red wine.
He couldn’t buy them yet; that fake wine harmed people and would remind him of unreal dreams. He had to maintain absolute self-control until he reunited with Pei Rong, letting Pei Rong know that he had made progress in these three years and wouldn’t let desire cloud his mind again.
“Wine?” Pei Dundun, who was lying by the window, turned his head around, and the breeze blew his forelock, making his eyes even clearer.
He had secretly seen Dad hiding a box of red wine, but it disappeared after he returned to China.
Madam Jiang smiled, “Dundun is still young; he shouldn’t drink. It’s not good for his health. When Dundun turns eighteen, then he can drink. Let’s toast with beverages when Dundun turns eighteen.”
Pei Dundun pursed his lips, “Okay.”
He had actually tasted a bit of wine with his finger, it didn’t taste good; he liked milk.
While comforted, Madam Jiang also felt a bit guilty; the Lu family had missed out on the unreasonable crying and tantrums of a child, directly having a reasonable baby, which was really embarrassing.
To make it up to Dundun, Lu Qin immediately made red wine braised beef as soon as he returned home. Dundun wanted to watch the process, so President Lu achieved the achievement of cooking with his child on his back.
He poured not much red wine, and after the alcohol evaporated, the grape fragrance soaked into the beef, and stewed with potatoes and carrots until soft.
Pei Dundun’s index finger twitched, eating minced meat and vegetable porridge one bite, and beef the other, fragrant.
Dad never lied to him; if Dad said Daddy Lu’s cooking was good, then it was good. It would be nice if Dad could taste it, too.
As night approached, Dundun missed Dad.
After finishing watching cartoons with Grandma, Pei Dundun occasionally glanced at his watch.
