After hearing Xie Xuanlan talk about the medicine he injected, Ruan Qing’s eyes revealed a pensive look.
The drug was intended to prevent the spread of cancer cells, and after Xie Xuanlan injected the drug, it effectively slowed down the infection.
It seemed that this zombie virus and cancer cells had some similarities to a certain extent.
However, the similarity level was not very high because it only slightly slowed down the infection; the rate of infection was still quite astonishing.
They must hurry to the Eternal Life Laboratory.
Fortunately, after Xie Xuanlan returned, their progress was much smoother. After the four of them found a place to rest for a night, they quickly arrived near the Eternal Life Laboratory.
However, the four of them dared not approach easily.
After all, there was that doctor inside the Eternal Life Laboratory, and even Yan San and Yan Ci might be there.
Entering directly from the front was completely impossible and could have led to immediate capture.
Xie Xuanlan’s limit was at most to delay Yan Ci and Yan San, adding another doctor was entirely impossible.
Moreover, the people in the Eternal Life Laboratory had special drugs to deal with experimental subjects like them; once hit, they would immediately lose their mobility.
This was very disadvantageous for Xie Xuanlan.
Even if the system was currently attached to Xie Xuanlan’s body, the other could not change this. Forcibly changing it would only expose the problem.
So they could only think of other ways to sneak in.
Ruan Qing took a look through the binoculars, and it seemed they could only climb over the wall from an unmonitored area.
The wall was very high, not convenient to bring Jiang Shuyu and the little girl.
Not to mention the danger inside the laboratory; they could disguise themselves upon entry, but the little girl couldn’t possibly disguise herself at all.
Jiang Shuyu also understood that her going in would only be a burden; she held the little girl and looked at the two seriously, saying, “We’ll wait for you in the car.”
There weren’t many zombies near the Eternal Life Laboratory, and it was relatively safe to park the car here; Ruan Qing nodded slightly.
Jiang Shuyu returned to the car with the little girl, watching the figures of the two. Her eyes filled with worry and complexity.
They must come back alive.
Xie Xuanlan walked to the base of the wall and directly lifted Ruan Qing horizontally, then with a light leap, effortlessly crossed the high wall, entering the area of the Eternal Life Laboratory.
The Eternal Life Laboratory was very large, making it easy to get lost inside.
However, Xie Xuanlan managed to escape from the Eternal Life Laboratory, so he was somewhat familiar with it, and taking Ruan Qing along went relatively smoothly.
Inside the Eternal Life Laboratory, there were people stationed everywhere; the closer you got to the core, the more guards there were.
It appeared orderly, almost like a separate world from the entire post-apocalyptic setting.
Xie Xuanlan and Ruan Qing moved cautiously, avoiding all surveillance and not attracting any attention.
But they couldn’t access the core area where the zombie virus research was conducted.
Not only did they need an access pass but also iris recognition, and there were a lot of nearby surveillance cameras as well.
It was almost at the point of being impossible to move even an inch.
Xie Xuanlan hid with Ruan Qing in a corner, carefully observing their surroundings, until their gaze fell on two people in a white lab coat not far away.
They were researchers from the laboratory.
When the two reached a blind spot in the surveillance, Xie Xuanlan knocked them out and dragged them into a corner.
He stripped off the two people’s clothes.
That’s how Xie Xuanlan acquired two sets of white lab coats, disguising himself and Ruan Qing as laboratory researchers.
However, not all researchers had the same level of clearance. The two people Xie Xuanlan knocked out did not have access to the core research area.
They wandered around for over ten minutes until they finally found a researcher with the necessary clearance.
This time, Xie Xuanlan didn’t knock the person out but instead tied up the male researcher.
After all, iris recognition couldn’t be done if the person was unconscious.
Ruan Qing administered some drugs to the bound man, then hypnotized him while he was still groggy.
Then he commanded the male researcher to lead them inside.
The hypnosis went relatively smoothly, and the male researcher guided them towards the entrance that required clearance.
As the male researcher reached the door, a cold electronic voice sounded.
“Beep! Please input your identity.”
The male researcher took out a card resembling an ID and swiped it on the nearby machine.
The electronic voice sounded again the next moment. “Please face the camera and blink your eyes.”
The male researcher followed suit. After he blinked, the nearby machine made a slight movement and eventually turned into a green circle.
“Identity verified, verification successful.”
“Welcome, Dr. Chen.”
As the electronic voice announced this, the door slowly opened.
Just as Xie Xuanlan and Ruan Qing were preparing to follow the male researcher inside, a voice came from behind the three, tinged with doubt.
“Dr. Chen, weren’t you transferred to Zone C? Why are you entering Zone A?”
Xie Xuanlan and Ruan Qing paused slightly, turning around with the male researcher to look at the person behind them.
The individual was also dressed in a white research uniform, evidently another researcher from the Eternal Life Laboratory.
He seemed to hold a high rank, perhaps one of the core researchers of the Eternal Life Laboratory.
The male researcher smiled at the person and spoke, “Isn’t Experimental Subject Zero in trouble? That’s why Dr. Fu asked me to check on the situation.”
Ruan Qing inferred from the male researcher’s words that this Dr. Fu was likely the same doctor they saw on the helicopter.
Upon hearing the male researcher’s explanation, that person suddenly realized, “So that’s how it is.”
His gaze shifted to Xie Xuanlan and Ruan Qing. “These two look unfamiliar. Which zone are you from?”
The male researcher smiled again. “Zone C. It’s not easy to find suitable candidates nowadays. I see potential in them, so I’m taking them with me.”
It was common for senior researchers to mentor new recruits; after all, working with like-minded teams was much more comfortable and led to faster progress.
Therefore, this explanation didn’t seem out of place.
The person nodded in understanding. “Indeed, I’ve been thinking about training some new recruits myself.”
“Alright, I need to hurry over there; otherwise, I won’t be able to explain to Dr. Fu.”
Seeming to realize this only then, he quickly said, “Alright, please go ahead. Don’t keep Dr. Fu waiting.”
The male researcher nodded at him and turned to walk towards the door.
Xie Xuanlan and Ruan Qing followed calmly.
Leaving only the researcher watching the three figures, muttering quietly to himself, “Didn’t Dr. Fu already change research directions?”
Dr. Chen probably received the news late; he likely didn’t know that Dr. Fu had changed research directions. After all, Dr. Fu had only returned recently and had been staying in the laboratory since then.
No one saw this scene because the door closed after the three individuals entered.
Their figures completely disappeared behind the door.
Zone A was the core of the entire Eternal Life Laboratory, with several experimental areas, some studying the blood of the undead body, and others researching the zombie virus.
There were also research results from experiments.
Xie Xuanlan directly took Ruan Qing to the area, studying the zombie virus.
Ruan Qing learned from the male researcher that the undead body had been swapped out, and the real body had disappeared without a trace. Dr. Fu should have been searching for that body, but he was not in this area at that time.
Ruan Qing didn’t just take the male researcher’s word for it; he hypnotized others and asked around, confirming that the body was indeed not in this area.
This worked out conveniently for them.
Ruan Qing and Xie Xuanlan stole the laboratory access card, bypassing others to reach the laboratory entrance.
After confirming no one was nearby, they swiped the card to open the laboratory door.
However, the moment Ruan Qing opened the door, his eyes widened, and he froze in place.
Because it was nothing like what the male researcher claimed—there were many people in the laboratory, busy conducting research and experiments.
Not only was Dr. Fu present, but Yan San and Yan Ci were also there.
And as the two opened the door, everyone in the laboratory turned to look at them.
No wayyy. That's such a mean cliffhanger. Thanks for the new chapter!
